Technology has a huge impact on our lives, and therefore on our health. In this section we will explain how the new technologies that we use everyday, such as smartphones and computers affect our health, as well as how these negative consequences can be avoided.

RadiationRadiofrequency energyCell phones emit radiofrequency energy (radio waves), a form of non-ionizing radiation. But, what is the difference between non-ionizing and ionizing radiation?Radiofrequency energy is a form of electromagnetic radiation. Electromagnetic radiation can be categorized into two types: ionizing (e.g., x-rays, and cosmic rays) and non-ionizing (e.g., radiofrequency and extremely low-frequency or power frequency).
Risks of brain cancerExposure to ionizing radiation, such as from radiation therapy, is known to increase the risk of cancer.
However, although many studies have examined the potential health effects of non-ionizing radiation from cell phones, microwave ovens, and other sources, there is currently no consistent evidence that non-ionizing radiation increases cancer risk. Children and phones
There is something that many parents wonder when they are about to buy a mobile phone to their children. Do children have a higher risk of developing cancer due to cell phone use than adults? In theory, children have the potential to be at greater risk than adults for developing brain cancer from cell phones. Their nervous systems are still developing and therefore more vulnerable to factors that may cause cancer. Their heads are smaller than those of adults and therefore have a greater proportional exposure to the field of radiofrequency radiation that is emitted by cell phones. And children have the potential of accumulating more years of cell phone exposure than adults do. But this is just a theory, and so far, the data from studies in children with cancer do not support it.

Taking good habitsNowadays, we use more and more our smartphones and electronical devices. They are great, and they allow us to communicate with people all around the world. However, most of us are developping some bad habits which we should avoid. Remember this, cell phones were invented to ease the communication between people, so do not allow them to hamper your communication with friends or family.
